Hair colouring comes in many different formats these days here is a breakdown of the main options 

Highlights and Low lights - Highlights can give your hair a lift as well as adding extra depth with low lights focussing on the extra depth. It is often far more natural to have highlights and can provide a far more subtle change. Most highlights are done using foils and lights but if you are just having one colour it can be done with a highlighting cap. Some people go for a half head of highlights again producing a more subtle look whilst others go for a full head providing a more dramatic look. 

Full head of colour - Full heads of colour are done for an all over look and are usually just in one shade. Some people have one colour and then have highlights on top of this. You can buy hair colour out of a box but many salons will mix and match different colours to create the perfect shade for you. 

Dip Dye and Ombre- Over the last couple of years a new dying trend has emerged in the form of Dip Dye hair or Ombre. This is where you have coloured hair dye applied to just the bottom of your hair usually from the chin downwards. Dip dye tends to be bright colours. Ombre is where you have lighter shade than your own applied to the bottom of your hair so it looks like its is fading out to a different colour.
